Spiritual Direction

“There are stories embedded in our skin and words enfleshed in us …
Give to us those who will listen us into our own language til we are hoarse with the telling and
with the laughter at being released from the silences we had kept so long.”
—Jan Richardson

*I currently hold space for women of all ages & stages.

It is my desire to offer holy hospitality to you by providing safe space to set your soul down and sift through what’s there.

 FAQs

  • Spiritual Direction is many things. It is accompanying and attending, looking and listening, quietness and questions. It is reflection and revelation, discernment and discovery, all in the presence of a loving God.

I would say about Spiritual Direction what author, Joyce Rupp, has said about Religious education, which is this: “It isn’t pouring something into someone, it is drawing it forth.”

To me personally, spiritual direction is about having a safe space to set your soul down and sift through what’s there.

  • As David Benner said in his book, Sacred Companions, “they help others attend to God’s presence and revelation and prepare to respond to him.”

A Spiritual Director is someone you meet with on a regular basis (usually once per month) and someone you can express and process your thoughts, feelings, and experiences with, in a safe, loving and trusting environment.

A Spiritual Director helps you become aware of God's promptings & invitations and supports you in your faith journey, wherever it may lead you. By becoming more attuned to God's presence in your life, the hope is that you will respond more fully to that Presence in your relationships, actions, thoughts, and emotions.

When desiring a companion on the way.

When heading out on a path of growth.

When finding yourself in the wilderness.

When seeking God in the complexity of life.

When needing wisdom from within and without.

When experiencing a season of deconstruction.

When you are a caretaker or leader who wants to tend to your own soul as well.

When experiencing hardship, grief, loss, or disappointment.

When navigating liminal spaces and/or significant life transitions.

When discerning questions of vocation, calling or purpose.

When standing at a crossroads in your life.

When longing for a space to be still and reflect on your inner journey.

Anything! (spiritual direction is not limited to those things we consider “spiritual”)

  • We will come together in person or on an online video call about once a month for an hour. If we meet virtually, I suggest you choose a quiet, comfortable place where you are free from interruptions and distractions.

I open each session by lighting a candle and reading a poem, prayer, or passage of scripture. This is followed by as much silence as you would like, for meditation, centering, or a chance for you to rest quietly in God’s love.

You are invited to bring whatever feels important to our conversation. Together we will notice the movements of your story, the Spirit's active presence and how you desire to respond.

During our time together, I will offer reflection back to you and an occasional evocative question to explore. We may pause at times to notice or listen to what your emotions, thoughts, and body sensations might be trying to communicate to you as we listen in deeper for God’s movements through it all. You can expect to have your story honored, your life witnessed, and your pain held.

The ultimate goal of our time together will be to hear and respond to the voice and invitations of God in your life.

  • I offer a 30-minute complimentary session to explore what a spiritual direction relationship between us might look like.

Subsequent sessions are $70 per session. If necessary, a sliding scale between $55 and $70 is used to fit the need of the directee.

If finances are an issue, please do not hesitate to speak to me about it. I do not want financial concerns to prohibit the gift and graces that spiritual direction offers.

  • After 30+ years in a variety of ministry roles, I was trained as a spiritual director through Anam Cara Ministries in Colorado.

I continue to be a part of a community of spiritual directors through Anam Cara Ministries. In addition, I am a member of Evangelical Spiritual Director’s Association and Mennonite Spiritual Directors Network, and abide by their code of ethics.

I see my own spiritual director on a monthly basis as well as participating in both 1:1 and group supervision.

What I mean by blessing …

What I mean by blessing is that you are welcome here, is that you are safe here, is that you can breathe here, is that you can speak here.

What I mean by blessing is that this is a place to question, is that this is a place to dream, is that this is a place to rest, is that this is a place to sing.

What I mean by blessing is that we hold you in your pain, is that we meet you in your fear, is that we see you in your hope, is that we take joy in you.
